There is something inspiring and exciting about January. It's a time to reflect on the year that has passed and for you to set new goals for the year that lies ahead. There are endless possibilities and opportunities, but it's up to you to make the most of the coming months.
So, how will 2018 differ from 2017 or the years before that?
Setting your goals for the year doesn't have to be a daunting task that leaves you feeling stressed either. When it comes to setting your goals, remember to start SMALL, be SPECIFIC, and most importantly, be PATIENT; every small step towards a goal is progress.
1. Start Small
The biggest mistake that we tend to make when setting goals for a New Year, is that our goals are too BIG or unattainable. We want to dream BIG, without thinking about what it takes to get there. Don't set yourself up for failure by setting goals that are impossible to achieve. "The world wasn't formed in a day, and neither were we. Set small goals and build upon them."
2. Be Specific
"Make each day count by setting specific goals to succeed, then putting forth every effort to exceed your own expectations." Specifying goals is the first part of setting "SMART" goals - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound. Make sure that your goals are clear and unambiguous - don't leave room for guessing.
3. Be Patient
Goals - no matter what they are, big or small, can take time to achieve. "Don't let life discourage you; everyone who got where he/she is had to begin where he/she was." Remember that just because these goals are set for this year, it may take longer than a year to achieve them - progress towards achieving them is important, too.
One of the best ways to stay on track is to share your goals and aspirations with family and friends so that they can keep you motivated and excited on the days when you're feeling a little uninspired. Encourage friends and family to set their own goals, too, so that you can support each other and make 2018 your best year yet.
Every year seems to fly by faster than the last so while you're achieving those goals, don't forget to slow down every now and then to make new memories and celebrate every achievement, big or small.
Wishing you a spectacular 2018!
