Newborn photography is so precious! We love meeting our smallest and newest clients and welcoming back their wonderful mamas to the studio for their first official portrait session. As a Certified Professional Photographer, we continually train in the best techniques in photographing newborns to safely take their portraits.

Expecting mamas have a lot to think about and plan for the nine months leading up to their baby’s birth! You need to decide which newborn photography style you prefer for your newborn’s portrait.

There are two newborn photography styles; lifestyle and posed. We’ll walk through these two styles and why you might choose one versus the other!

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

This session takes place in your home. While your lifestyle photographer works within your space, parents will need to make sure their home is clean and ready for the session. Lifestyle portraits are taken in areas of the house to showcase your family’s new chapter. You’ll want to have props and outfits ready for your newborn on the day of the session as your photographer will likely not provide those items.

Your posed newborn photography session usually takes place in a studio. A major benefit of this is that you don’t need to worry about your house at all. You simply head to the studio where everything is ready for the session. Your baby and your family’s love are the stars of the show here. We gently pose your sweet newborn in wraps and accessories that are meaningful to you as we capture that perfect moment.

Bring your whole family so we can take that new family portrait for you to look back on forever and remember what it was like welcoming the newest member of your family. Another perk of a studio session is choosing a neutral backdrop to create a timeless look for your portrait. Whether you choose to display the portrait in your home or an album, your photographs will always look stylish.

Which Newborn Portrait Style is Right for You?

So, now that you understand the difference between the two types of newborn photography styles, which one is right for you? Both are beautiful, and your newborn will look so precious either way. If you’re still unsure, consider the following questions-

Do you like the posed newborn look?

What specific poses and looks do you have in mind?

Would you want the photographer to take care of everything?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you might be interested in a posed studio newborn session!
